Since its establishment in 1978, the institute has made full commitments on enhancing national territorial competitiveness and promoting future-oriented research activities. They included establishing national and regional development plans, making efforts for environment conservation, developing and providing land and housing policies, promoting the construction industry, building national territorial infrastructure, setting up a GIS network. Furthermore, we have conducted researches on achieving the Inter-Korean prosperity and building a Northeast Asian cooperative community. At the same time, KRIHS has fulfilled its duties for developing the national territory more efficiently, supporting low income families and conserving natural resources as well. As you are well aware, we have made every efforts to contribute to the development of national territory.
More than 224 studies in a wide range of research fields were performed in 2011 with the goal of “Creating a Prestigious Global Green Territory”. To achieve the objective, we set up three action plans: ① Laying the Foundation for Global Cooperation in the Territorial Sector to Lead the New G20 Era; ② Realizing a Smart Green Foundation to Enhance National Prestige; ③ Stabilizing Living Conditions of Ordinary People and Creating an Advanced Housing Environment. Researches conducted in each plan are as follows.
The major research projects on “Laying the Foundation for Global Cooperation in Territorial Sector to Lead the new G20 Era” include “A Study on the Spatial Quality Enhancement of Korean National Territory for the G20 Era”, “A Study on Global City-Regions in Korea(II)”, “A Study on Spatial Design Direction for Korean Territory”, “Development Issues of the Growth Centers in North Korea for Preparing the Korean Unification(I)”, “An Analysis of Infrastructure Development Potential in the North Korea · China · Russia(NK · C · R) Border Region and Counter Strategies for Future NK · C · R Cross-Border Cooperation”, “Global Development Collaboration and Market Strategies in National Infrastructure Sector in G20 Era”, “The Enhancement of the Strategic Integrated Logistics System for Cooperation between Sino-Korean”.
The research projects focusing on the objective of “Realizing a Smart Green Foundation to Enhance National Prestige” include “A Study on Setting Geospatial Information Policy in Smart Society”, “A Study on the Development Strategies for Green Growth of the Capital Region”, “Study on the Integrated Nature Management System for the Sustainable Development”, “Cultural Cluster Strategy as a Tool for Urban Revitalization”, “The Study on Urban Regeneration Strategy for the Application of Regional Assets”, “Industry Location Study for the SMART Growth of the Capital Region”.
Lastly, concerning “Retirement of Baby Boom Generation and the Strategy for Revitalization of Rural Areas in Korea”, KRIHS carried out a number of research projects such as “Planning of the Transit-Oriented Corridor towards Green City Development”, “A Study on Economic Benefit Estimation and Planning Direction of Healthy Cities”, “The Establishment of the National Minimum Standard on Transport Services Focused on the Accessibility of the Road Infrastructure”, “Improvement of the Compensation System for the Infringement on the Rights of Residence and Livelihood in the Public Expropriation”, “Strategies to Revitalize Local Trading Area for Stabilizing Regional Economy”. “Policy Implications through Micro-Analysis of Real Estate Market(I)”, “A Study on Housing Policy Paradigm Shift for Social and Economic Structural Changes”, “Assessment of Public Conflict Management over Regional Development Projects: Finding Significant Factors and Policy Implications”.
