Date: September 2-6 (Mon-Fri), 2024
Venue: Hotel Koreana, Seoul & KRIHS, Sejong, Korea
The 9th KRIHS-IDB Urban Development Academy (KIUDA), co-organized with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), took place from September 2–6, 2024 in Seoul and Sejong. This year, the program focused on urban challenges in Brazilian cities, with participation from 13 officials representing ten Brazilian subnational governments.
On the opening day, KRIHS President Gyo-Eon Shim emphasized the importance of Korea-Brazil cooperation for sustainable urban development. Tatiana Gallego, the division chief of housing and urban development (HUD) at IDB, highlighted KIUDA as a platform for advancing sustainable and equitable cities.
The five-day program featured expert-led sessions on urban policy, economic and territorial development, transit-oriented development (TOD), housing finance, and land development. The participants also visited sites including Cheonggyecheon, Gwanghwamun Square, the Seoul Transport Operation and Information Services (TOPIS), and the permanent rental housing complex in Bundang District.
On the final day, representatives from the ten Brazilian subnational governments presented their urban policy and development project proposals for future collaboration with KRIHS. Moving forward, KRIHS, IDB, and the Brazilian subnational governments will explore feasible projects based on these proposals to lay the groundwork for continued cooperation.
