KRIHS-WB “Cities, Culture and Climate Change” Expert Roundtable

Date: May 16, 2023

Venue: Online

On May 16 (Tuesday), KRIHS and the World Bank jointly organized an expert roundtable titled "Cities, Culture, and Climate Change – Learning from the Korean Experience.” The event began with a welcome speech by Dr. Youn Hee Jung, a research fellow at KRIHS. Subsequently, Korean consultants presented their research on national policies and case studies of Seoul, Suwon, and Jeju, focusing on cultural heritage, tourism, and strategies for climate change adaptation.

Following this, experts from international organizations, such as the World Bank, UNESCO, UNWTO, and ICOMOS, actively participated in this roundtable, expressing their perspectives on collaborative research. Many experts emphasized that South Korea‘s successful practices could offer beneficial solutions to developing countries facing challenges in the tourism and cultural heritage sectors due to climate change.

Consequently, KRIHS plans to arrange a Technical Deep Dive (TDD) event, inviting relevant groups from developing countries to provide tailored response measures and opportunities for capacity building to address their specific needs.
