KRIHS-WB Knowledge Exchange on Solid Waste Management

On May 1-5, 2023, KRIHS organized the Open Learning Campus (OLC)-Korea Program for Operational Knowledge (KPOK) Knowledge Exchange on Solid Waste Management (SWM) in collaboration with the World Bank (WB) targeting participants from six countries with ongoing WB lending operations covering SWM: Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Mozambique, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. The in-person workshop took place in Seoul, South Korea, offering an opportunity to engage directly with Korean experts and practitioners in the field of SWM.

The workshop was designed to share an understanding of both Korean and international best practices in SWM with the following key topics: i) global trends in SWM; ii) holistic understanding of SWM; (iii) financing of SWM; (iv) circular economy; (v) recycling, eco-tax, and extended producer responsibility; (vi) SWM technologies; and (vii) institutional operational arrangements in SWM.

This workshop delivered cutting-edge policy thinking and technical knowledge through Korean and international experts’ lectures in learning sessions and experimental knowledge exchange through SWM site visits. Learn more about the OLC collaboration workshop in the Focus section.
