The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) held the opening ceremony for 2018 Capacity Development Program on National Territorial Policy responding to Climate Change at the main hall of KRIHS in June 25.

The workshop supervised by KOICA and hosted by KRIHS is the third of the 3-year long capacity building workshop from 2016 and it is going to be held at KRIHS in Sejong and KOICA in Pangyo.

From June 25 (Mon) to July 11 (Wed) for 21 days, this program is aimed to exchange knowledge on Korea’s national territorial policy responding to climate change and find implications applying to participants countries.

Among 25 participant are 18 government officials from 5 Asian countries, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Vietnam and 7 staffs from KRIHS.

In the opening ceremony, the president of the KRIHS, Dongju Kim delivered welcoming remarks and the director of Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Kumarawadu Sanjeewanl Apsara Mendis gave a speech in response. In following, the Associate Research Fellow, Yehyun An delivered introduction of KRIHS and GDPC, and the Assistant Research Fellow, Siyeon Kim organized orientation session.

The program includes seminars on Korea’s national territorial development plan, land information system, water and waste management, national climate information system and urban risk analysis and management. Also relevant site visits are included such as Sejong Government Complex, Sejong City Integrated Information Center, Seoul Transport Operation & Information System, Seoul Waterworks Museum, Chenggyecheon Museum, Gangnam Resource Recovery Facility and so on.

During this program, intensive cooperation is expected to be pursued by high level officials meetings and Biz Meetings as well as by sharing Korean urban infrastructure development knowledge and experiences responding to climate change.​
