IDB-KRIHS 5th Annual Workshop & MOU Signing Ceremony

The Global Development Partnership Center(GDPC) at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements(KRIHS) held the ‘IDB-KRIHS 5th Annual Workshop’ on November 29(Wed) at the Inter-American Development Bank(IDB) in Washington D.C. The workshop is aimed to share cooperative activities and research outcome in the field of public places and explore continuous cooperation between KRIHS and IDB. About 40 people participated today’s workshop including the IDB staff and KRIHS delegation.

 

In the opening ceremony, Tatiana Gallego Lizon, the Director of the Housing and Urban Development division at the IDB delivered welcoming remarks and Dong-Ju Kim, the President of the KRIHS delivered the opening speech. The president congratulated on renewal of MOU, which was firstly signed in 2012 to make fruitful outcome from cooerative activities in a variety of fields and also emphasized the importance of cooperaiton between the KRIHS-IDB.

 

Andres Blanco, the Senior Slecialist at the IDB delivered presentation on outcome from cooperative activities including the KRIHS-IDB Urban Development Academy(KIUDA) program and Diana Motta, the Director of the Ministry of Cities, who participated in the KIUDA in 2017, highlighted on sharing outcome and continuous cooperation between Korea and Brazil. 

 

During the following session of Korea cases, Seongsu Kim, the Research Fellow of the KRIHS introduced policies on public spaces for urban vitalizaiton and the examples of Yonse-ro, Gyeong-ui Sup gil, Cheonggye Stream and Gusan Libraray. Yehyun An, the Associate Research Fellow of the KRIHS introduced methodology and existing cases to evaluate livability in urban streets and suggested seeking for applicable measures to Cities LAB of IDB.
 
At the end of the workshop, Juan Pablo Bonilla, the Manager at the IDB
's Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector(CSD) and Dongju Kim, the president of the KRIHS signed the MOU between KRIHS and IDB. This is a renewal after 5 years since the first MOU was signed in 2012 and it is aimed to continue fuitful cooperative activities in urban and housing sector based on Korea’s policies and development expereinces. Also there was in-depth discussion to make business plans for the next year at the 4 business meetings from the day to the next day.
