2017 KRIHS-KOICA Urban Management under National Zoning Policy for Guatemala

 

Theme: Sharing Korea’s knowledge and experience in housing, transportation, new city development, disaster prevention and other sectors for Guatemala’s policy making and action plan

From June 18(Sun) to July 1(Sat), the Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) hosted a program about sharing Korea’s experience and knowledge in land, new city development, housing and transportation policy, infrastructure, and disaster prevention for 14 government officials who are in charge of territory and urban development in Guatemala. This is the last course of KOICA’s 3 years of invitational training project, including adviser meeting and workshops with territorial and city development experts from KRIHS, site visiting and cultural experience program.


In the opening ceremony, the president of KRIHS, Dongju Kim stated that this capacity building program could give meaningful insights to Guatemala’s policy making on territorial and urban development by sharing Korea’s experience, knowledge, and even trials and errors. He also mentioned that this would be a great opportunity to build a firm foundation to deepen cooperation between Korea and Guatemala. In addition, he expected to work together continuously even it would be the last course of 3 years-training.


In this program, trainees are from Guatemalan Secretariat of Planning and Programming of the Presidency (SEGEPLAN), the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure, and Dwelling, the Municipality of Villa Canales, Coban, and Chiquimula, etc. Also, Dr. Yoo Kiyoung from Seoul Research Institute, Dr. An Seonghwan from Korea Water & Wastewater Works Association, Dr. Chae Jonghun from Korea Institute of Public Administration, Professor Jeong Changhun from Inha university and research fellows from KRIHS attended the program.
