2016 KRIHS-KOICA National Territorial Policy Responding to Climate Change

The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) held an invitational workshop titled “2016 KRIHS-KOICA National Territorial Policy Responding to Climate Change” with 19 trainees from 12 countries at its auditorium from June 5-18.

This workshop is the first year programme of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s three-year invitational workshop programme. It provided lectures by experts on Korea’s national territorial policy responding to climate change, urban disaster prevention, green technology, infrastructure and smart city, conducting onsite visits to Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ), the promotion hall for Sejoing administrative city and the promotion hall for the green ecofriendly energy saving technology responding to climate change, Han river flood control station, the resource collection facility in Mapo, the greenhouse gas comprehensive information center and the national climate change adaptation center that are all related to the topics of the lectures. 

With respect to issues facing each country, the trainees drew and presented final action plans regarding a range of topics including the establishment and operation of disaster management system such as landslide and flood and an early warning system, the disposal and management of solid waste, the management of urban slums, public rental housing policy in lagging and vulnerable regions, the management of disaster-hit regions and support for the settlement of migrants, the development of infrastructure in response to climate change, preservation strategies for forests and biological diversity, as well as the development of a master plan for responding to climate change.

The workshop was attended by a total of 19 trainees from 12 countries - Algeria, Cambodia, Columbia, Indonesia, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongol, Myanmar, Senegal, Sri Lanka and Tunisia. From the KRIHS,  Ilho Chung, director of the GDPC, Seongsoo Choi, a senior research fellow, Myungsoo Kim, head of the National Territorial Plan Assessment Center, SanggunLee, a senior research fellow, Gwangik Wang, a research fellow, Byungjae Lee, an associate research fellow, Sunghee Min, an associate research fellow, Sangeun Lee, an associate research fellow and Jaesung Choi, an associate research fellow provided lectures as experts in each field.​
