KRIHS and GWU hold workshop on inclusive territorial development

  The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) together with the George Washington University (GWU) held a knowledge-sharing workshop at a conference room on the fourth floor in the KRIHS on May 26, 2016 as part of follow-up projects after signing a memorandum of understanding in 2012. The university visits Korea every year under the ‘sustainable urban planning program for graduate students to compare and analyze urban development planning programs between the US and Korea.

  During the workshop, Jungho Mun, a research fellow at the KRIHS, gave an introduction of the KRIHS, joint research with foreign institutions (policy consultations on the Columbia new airport complex and neighboring area development, research on habitat III urban policy and knowledge sharing program for developing countries), as well as joint invitation programs with international bodies (Inter-American Development Bank and World Bank Group) to promote the status of its international research exchanges. Subsequently, he gave a presentation on cases of inclusive territorial development in Korea.

  The presentation was followed by discussions among Chunyong Lee, a senior research fellow at the KRIHS, Sunghee Min and Sujin Kim, associate research fellows at the KRIHS, professor John I. Carruthers and graduate students of the GWU. They compared and analyzed urban development between the US and Korea, discussing the concept of inclusive urban development. They also talked about implications of inclusive territorial development for sustainable urban development under the theme of urban planning and development in the US and Korea (Seoul).
