  The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) held the closing ceremony for the 2016 KRIHS-WBG/OLC Blended Workshop on Sustainable Urban Land Use Planning and Management in the Westin Chosun Seoul on June 2.

  The workshop held for four days from May 30 to June 2 was attended by 40 working level officials for policymaking, including World Bank’s regional consultants, from 22 countries including developing countries such as India, Vietnam, Columbia and Ethiopia. During the event, the participants shared their knowledge and experience about land-based financing, risk-sensitive land use planning and land market assessment, as well as cases in Korea, while addressing future challenges and explore ways to deal with them.

  In the closing ceremony, Dongju Kim, the president of the KRIHS thanked the participants for the success of the workshop, hoping that the event will translate into trilateral cooperation among Korea, World Bank and a relevant country for sustainable urban land use planning and management.

  In addition, Joyce Msuya, a special representative of the co-host World Bank, conveyed his appreciation for the success of the event and expressed his intent to explore cooperation opportunities through more workshops.

  On behalf of the participants, Singh Arun Kumar, principal secretary of Jharkhand in India, thanked the World Bank Group and the KRIHS for providing a good opportunity to share experience and knowledge about land readjustment, land-based financing, land market assessment and urban disaster preventive planning in 22 countries including Korea. Furthermore, he announced the state of Jharkhand has intention to sign a memorandum of understanding with the KRIHS for urban and infrastructure planning and development.

  The participants at the workshop shared each country’s experience and knowledge on land-based financing, risk-sensitive land use planning and land market assessment and by doing so, they were able to draw policy implications that will be instrumental in introducing and applying urban land use planning and management systems in each country.
