GDPC Meets Kurdistan Regional Government Officials to Share Knowledge

About: National development support for the Kurdistan regional government

Date: October 19, 2015

At: KRIHS

The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) at KRIHS discussed Korea’s land development experience with Ali Sindi, Minister of Planning of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and officials from the Korea Institute for Development Strategy (KDS) on October 19, 2015.

With the purpose of improving the awareness of the Kurdistan government officials and developing the nation by benchmarking Korea’s national development experience through Korea’s government official training programs, Minister Ali Sindi visited Korea hoping to learn Korea’s knowledge and experience in government official training systems from the Korean government and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

First, the Kurdistan delegation wanted to understand the roles and functions of KRIHS and its contribution to Korea’s land development. Second, it wanted to build a cooperative relationship with KRIHS and establish a similar national land institute in its region. Once they understood that public research centers and public companies played a significant role in Korea’s rapid economic development for the past 60 years, they asked many questions and sought macroscopic advice for various issues, such as infrastructure construction financing in regard to social overhead capital (SOC), Korea’s PPP status and systems, ownership of roads and railways, financing methods, and ratio of infrastructure construction in Korea’s annual budget. Mentioning that there are many lessons from which to learn, the Kurdistan delegation wished further collaboration in public service and infrastructure development in the Kurdistan region through Korea’s knowledge sharing program and other opportunities.
