About: “Exploring the Economy-wide Impacts of Urban Renewal Projects in Bogota”

Date: August 12, 2015

At: KRIHS

The Global Development Partnership Center at KRIHS hosted a workshop presented by Mr. Javier Perez-Burgos, Professor at the University of the Andes, on August 12, 2015. This workshop was organized as part of the KRIHS-IDB Joint Research Program. The Program that GDPC is currently carrying out aims at seeking implications for urban and housing challenges in Latin America and Carribean countries from Korea’s urban development experience and developing joint research agendas.

Professor Javier Perez presented economic impacts of urban renewal on the growth and income distribution in Bogota. In the presentation, he proposed two urban renewal visions: compact city development and urban sprawl. His first proposal of compact city development included building skyscraper in the city center for commercial purpose and designing some parts of the city for both residential and commercial purposes. The second proposal was about designating undeveloped areas as residential areas for urban sprawl. The first result of the research using CGE showed that the economic impacts of compact city development was higher.

Adding land factors in his CGE analysis, Professor Javier Perez will submit his final report until September 15, 2015.
