Special Lecture on US Rental Housing Market

The Housing and Land Research Division of KRIHS invited Kim Sunwoong, professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin, as a presenter for the “Lecture for New Knowledge Sharing,” on July 20, at KRIHS.
In the lecture titled “US Rental Housing Market,” Professor Kim presented characteristics of US housing market, changes in the market after the subprime mortgage crisis in 2008 and determinants of homeownership and renting. He also introduced indirect US housing market regulations, including rent control that some US cities are implementing, zoning and taxing, and US public rental assistance such as housing choice vouchers in the US public rental market and low income housing tax credit (LIHTC) program.
Director Chun Hyeonsook of the host division, Director Park Chungyu of the Center for Real Estate Market Analysis, Research Fellow Kim Hyeseung and many other KRIHS fellows attended the lecture and discussed differences between Korean and US housing market and the tasks and strategies for Korean housing rental market.
