1. Background

ㆍSaudi Arabia needed for a transport development initiative that is integrated into the nation’s Ninth Development Plan.

ㆍA need for a research on the existing transport infrastructure in the nation was high for more effective policy development.

ㆍ Korea’s 40-year experience in transport infrastructure development was considered to be able to provide a good example for Saudi Arabia. 

2. Purpose

ㆍ To achieve the long-term goal of “sustainable development” in the Ninth  Development Plan of Saudi Arabia

ㆍ To create the foundation for land and spatial development and seek long-term growth and convenience of the public in the nation 

3. Project Description

The researches conducted in this project include the followings:  

ㆍ strategic policy suggestions integrating and coordinating the long-term goal of the Ninth Plan and the proposed transport development plan

ㆍ reviews on the development schemes of different modes of transport including roads, railways, airways, and waterways to construct supplementary and integrated transport infrastructure

ㆍ introduction of cutting edge technology to improve efficiency of the entire transport infrastructure 

ㆍ solutions to secure efficiency of investment in constructing transport infrastructure

ㆍ an analysis of assessment methods for the impacts of transport infrastructure providing a fitting development method for Saudi Arabia.

4. Impacts and Benefits

ㆍ Korea’s practices in transport infrastructure development provided opportunities to develop strategic policies coordinated the ’s Ninth Development Plan and transport initiative.

ㆍ Korea’s case developing “green transport”offered fitting solutions for Saudi Arabia.
