Backgrounds
  • The Local Economic Governance (LEG) project is an on-going 5-year AusAID funded project which is currently managed by the Sri Lanka office of The Asia Foundation. The main objective of the LEG project is to improve the enabling environment for business at the local level by strengthening the capacity of local authorities to influence local economic growth and to be more responsive to the needs and concerns of sub-national stakeholders. The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has provided a grant of US$ 1 million to the LEG project to support the expansion of LEG project activities in four Local Authority areas (Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Kalmunai and Amparai) in the Eastern Province. Of this proposed support, $500,000 will be provided directly to The Asia Foundation while the balance $500,000 will be managed by KOICA.
Purpose
  • To review a proposal of eastern cities created by Sri Lanka central government (UDA: Urban Development Authority)
  • To consult and advise local officials in eastern Sri Lanka for capacity-building workshop
