  • In Dakah, Bangladesh, Dr. Jo and Mr. Kim attended a workshop on Dec. 6, 2012 with the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), the Power and Participation Research Center (PPRC), the World Bank (WB), the Narayanganj City Corporation. Total 10 participants included Iftekhar Armed (LGED, Superintending Engineer), Abdu Muwonge (WB, Senior Urban Economist) and eight other people who attended.
    The superintending engineer, Iftekar Ahmed discussed the major urban issues in Bangladesh, and after the introduction of KRIHS and GDPC, all the participants discussed collaborative methods with the WB, KRIHS and the LGED. They agreed on the need for training courses designed for improving working capabilities and discussed further cooperation in training programs and establishing a national research institute in the field of urban planning.
  • A workshop with the PPRC was held at an outdoor conference room on Dec. 6, 2012 with 10 participants including Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman (Executive Chairman), Ming Zhang (WB, Sector Manager) and other related staffers. The participants discussed such issues as sporadic urban research, the lack of statistic data, and unsystematic urban management, and discussed their diverse perspectives on the concentration and dispersion of investment, and upward and downward policy.
  • A workshop with the Narayangarnj City Corporation was held on Dec. 7, 2012, in the mayor's room with 10 participants including Dr. Salina Hayat Ivy of the Narayangarjji city Mayor's office, Sheunhua Wang (WB, Bangladesh Task force Team Leader) and other related officials attended meeting. Through a city on-site visit, delegation of KRIHS learned about the urgent need for improvement of the city's infrastructure, including for the poor road conditions and untreated sewage flowing into the river in the city.
  • On Dec. 8, 2012, Dr. Jo and Mr. Kim joined a workshop at the GDED hall titled "Urbanization, Crisis or Opportunity?: International Lessons and Bangladesh Priorities" hosted and backed by PPRC and the World Bank.
