KRIHS-World Bank: Cities, Climate Change, and Health Collaboration Workshop

Date: April 18 (Tue), 2023

Venue: Hybrid (GDPC meeting room and online)

On April 18, 2023, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) facilitated the first Cities, Climate Change, and Health collaboration workshop in a hybrid format as part of its joint research with the World Bank (WB). Targeting stakeholders of healthy cities and climate change research across Disaster Risk Management, Resilience, and Land (GPURL) and Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) at the World Bank (WB) and KRIHS, this workshop first addressed sharing and spreading research results by explaining the previous research on urban climate and health actions: Extreme Heat in Cities: From Assessment to Action and The Way of Using Green Infrastructure to Ameliorate Health Effects Caused by Climate Change. It then discussed setting the spatial scope of the joint research and the site lists for the case study to fill the gaps in previous research.

The joint research on Cities, Climate Change, and Health with the WB aims to understand the connection between climate change and health within the urban environment and to derive concrete action plans to realize a healthy city by responding to climate change at the urban level.
