Venue: KRIHS, Sejong, Korea

On July 25, 2022, the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) hosted the 5th Leaders Forum . The Leaders Forum is a place for lecturers to present a vision for future land and discover policy measures to create sustainable homelands. KRIHS President Hyun-soo Kang gave gratitude to Dr. Su-jin Kim, director of the OECD Urban Policy and Sustainable Development Bureau, for accepting the invitation to speak. In her lecture on “Creating Resilient Future Cities,” Dr. Kim observed, “Historically, disasters such as cholera, hurricanes, 9/11, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Ukraine war have given the world an opportunity to rethink the resilience of cities,” and he emphasized the “importance of smart recovery following digital transition, green recovery considering environmental aspects, and inclusive recovery strategies focusing on equity issues.” In the question-and-answer session and general discussion that followed, participants from KRIHS discussed South Korea’s housing issues, carbon neutrality, the circular economy, the resilience of small and medium-sized cities, and future cooperation plans between the two institutions.
