Participation in the 46th OECD Regional Development Policy Committee
Date: May 7 (Sat) ~ 14 (Sat), 2022
Venue: OECD Headquarters, Paris, France
Dr. Cheonjae Lee of the GDPC visited Paris from May 7 to 14 to participate in the 46th OECD Regional Development Policy Committee (RDPC) as one of the Korean government delegates, who include not only policymakers from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, but also researchers from the Korea Rural Economic Institute and KRIHS.
The key topics for discussion this year at RDPC and working parties on urban policy, rural policy, and territorial indicators were as follows: the impact of the Ukraine War on urban and rural economies, food security, and energy security; changes in urban spatial structure due to the COVID-19 pandemic; strengthened urban and rural resilience against climate risk; discussions on rural proofing; impacts of global supply chain and foreign direct investment in a post-pandemic region; and many others.
Korean government delegates introduced various urban and rural policies in response to regional shocks due to COVID-19 and the Ukraine War, especially focusing on mega-region development; living SOC (social overhead capital); and the national carbon neutral strategy including the carbon space map.
