Colombian university scholar visits KRIHS as part of KRIHS-IDB Visiting Scholar Program
Natalia Arruda da Silva, a scholar from Universidad de Antioquia of Colombia, visited Korea Research Institute for Human Settlement (KRIHS) August 16-26 as part of the KRIHS-IDB Visiting Scholar Program jointly run by the Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of KRIHS and the Inter-American Development Bank. Professor Arruda is conducting research on “Comparative Research on Public Bus Systems in Metropolitan Area focused on Seoul and Medellin.”
To get a better grasp of Seoul’s metropolitan public transportation system during her stay in Korea, she held interviews with related officials and Seoul bus policymakers, conducted a written survey jointly with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and visited the Anyang U-Integrated Control Center.
On August 25 (Thursday) at 2 p.m., Arruda hosted a final workshop at KRIHS in which she discussed her main activities in Korea and progress and future direction of her research. In comparing the governance and financial and operating systems of the bus systems of Seoul and Medellin, she hinted that the Korean experience in public transit policy and environment could contribute to making Colombia’s public transportation system safer. She added that she plans on studying concrete policy development experience to provide policy guidelines to the Medellin municipal government through related materials from KRIHS and analyses of applied case studies. The workshop was attended by all GDPC members.
