Course Objectives

To share experiences that may help inform the direction of the long-term National Territorial Plan, targeted both at the entire nation and at narrower urban plans.

CONTENTS

Orientation

The first two days of the training course are normally reserved for an orientation session at the ICTC of KOICA. The orientation involves the following activities:

  • Video Presentation on Korea and KOICA's Activities
  • Video Presentation on Korea's History, Culture, and Society
  • Class on Basic Korean Expressions
  • Presentation on Daily Life in Korea including Outdoor Practice
  • Seoul City Excursion, etc.

    "Policy and Strategies for the National Territorial Development in Korea" Led by Dong-ju Kim, Head of National Territorial Planning & Regional Research Division, KRIHS Discuss policies related to industrial complexes, infrastructure, housing, and areas developed in National Territorial Plans. Introduced recent trends and plans such as megalopolis areas, green growth, Saving Four Major Rivers and High-Speed Railways

Social & Cultural Program

During the first week, participants are invited to various sites in Seoul, which is both the capital and the heart of the Republic of Korea. Seoul is also the financial, political, commercial, recreational, educational and cultural center of Korea. It is home to major corporations, banks, government offices, leading schools and universities, and entertainment facilities.
Participants discovered a rich and satisfying variety of things to see and do on the tour. They visited landmarks like Namdaemoon Market, Insa-dong (a charming narrow street lined with antique stores, art galleries), Gyeongbok Palace, a Korean traditional home and Seoul Tower.

Wrap-up Session

This session includes a questionnaire survey, oral evaluation and departure orientation. Suggestions, Q&A, and personal feedback on the program were solicited in this wrap-up session. Participants were reminded that in this session they are to review the contents of training and how it is applicable to their national policies.
