Education Program on Territorial Planning for Algerian Officials Finished

Date|From Mon, August 18 To Friday, August 29 Venue|KRIHS The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) at KRIHS offered an education program on territorial planning and development for fifteen Algerian government officials including Souhila Dahim, a director of the Ministry of Land-use Planning and Environment of Algeria, from Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 29. The program was commissioned by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and aimed to share Korea’s knowledge and experience in the areas of water resource management, new town development, industrial complex development, transportation policy, and territorial development including the Comprehensive National Territorial Development Plan of Korea, and to help improve Algeria’s ability to solve problems the country is currently facing.  The two-week program ended on the morning of August 29 with the presentation of two participants and a closing ceremony. Regional Director Ali Benseddik presented on “Plan for Easing Traffic Congestion in the Capital of Algeria” and Regional Director Farida Bourekba, “Plan for Developing Areas Surrounding Expressways in Algeria.” The presentations were prepared based on the lectures, field trips to institutions and places related to Korea’s infrastructure, and the guidance of the advisors Park Heon-ju, president of Research Institute for Road Name-Based Address System; Kim jeong-ho, visiting professor of KDI School of Public Policy and Management; and Ryu Jae-young, research professor of Korea Aerospace University. President Park heon-ju and KDI professor Kim Jeong-ho made complimentary remarks about the Algerian officials for their efforts during the course and gave them course-completion certificates. As future policy consulting for Algeria in the area of transportation was discussed during the program, further cooperation between Korea and Algeria is expected.
