The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) jointly hosted the 2025 KRIHS- ADB Knowledge Exchange on Resilient and Low-Carbon Urban Development Policy & Practice from November 3 (Monday) to 7 (Friday) at the Courtyard Marriott Seoul Namdaemun (Hanyang Room 3+4).
Sponsored by the Korea e-Asia Knowledge Partnership Fund (EAKPF) and supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), the training brought together 22 participants, including 12 participants from six Developing Member Countries (DMCs) and 10 ADB officials. The event served as a platform for sharing Korea’s urban development policies alongside current situations and key issues from participating countries.
The program comprised lectures, site visits, networking session, and action plan presentations. Participants attended lectures focused on Urban Policies for Carbon Neutrality, New Town Development, and City Action Plan in Response to Climate Change. Site visits included Nanjido, Seonyudo Park, Pangyo New Town, and Nowon Energy Zero Housing Complex, where they observed practical applications related to the lectures.
The opening ceremony on November 4 featured a welcome speech by Kristina Katich, Senior Urban Development Specialist at ADB, followed by welcoming remarks from Panki Cho, Vice President of KRIHS, and congratulatory remarks from Byung Kil Choi, Director of Urban Vitality Division at MOLIT.
On the morning of November 5, representatives from the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation (HUG), Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), Seoul Urban Solutions Agency (SUSA), DOHWA Engineering, RMS Platform, and ESTECH ENG introduced their organizations and participated in a Q&A session, providing participants the opportunity to exchange contact information and discuss potential cooperation.
On November 7, participants presented cooperation projects based on knowledge gained from the training. All six participating countries expressed strong commitment to cooperation with Korea. The panel, including Saheum Hong, Director of GDPC at KRIHS, and Kristina Katich, Senior Urban Development Specialist at ADB, responded and discussed multiple directions for collaboration.
KRIHS, in collaboration with ADB, plans to use the shared country-specific information and proposed projects from this knowledge exchange to define future cooperation areas and build a sustainable partnership framework.
