Date: April 15, 2015
At: KRIHS

The National Territorial Planning and Research Division of KRIHS held a joint workshop on urban disaster prevention with the Woodrow Wilson Center (WWC), on April 15 at KRIHS. Vice President Blair Ruble and Dr. Allison Garland from the WWC, and Alven Lam of the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) were invited, along with Kaye Brubaker of the University of Maryland and Patrick Roberts of the Virginia Tech who are the participants of the first joint seminar held in February, 2015, at the WWC, Washington D.C.
In the workshop, participants presented the progress of their research on urban policy development for urban resilience and discussed the research direction, range and focus of each party, and funding. Introducing the application cases of resilience in the United States, including urban and regional resilience forum and the New York City’s comprehensive resilience plan, the participants further discussed how to apply resilience to Korea’s urban disaster prevention policies. Director Lee Wonsup, associate research fellows Han Woosuk and Hong Saheum, and a research fellow Yu Jinwook of the National Territorial Planning and Research Division also attended the workshop and exchanged ideas on future collaboration between the WWC and KRIHS.
