KRIHS and Mexican Officials Discuss on Urban Renewal and Public Housing

Date|October 14, 2014 Venue|KRIHS, Seoul On October 14 at the Ecole meeting room, the Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) at KRIHS held a workshop on issues including urban regeneration, urban redevelopment, land, housing, and public housing development with nine Mexican high-ranking officials and a World Bank staff. The Mexican participants include Maria Paloma Silva de Anzorena, director of the Mexican National Housing Commission; Jesús Alberto Cano, director of the Mexican Federal Mortgage Association; José Reyes Vocal Ejecutivo, director of the Mexican Housing Fund for Civil Servants; and Jesús Sergio Alcántara Núñez, director of the Mexican Land Ownership Regulation Commission. This visit is part of the Mexico-Korea Knowledge Exchange Study Tour supported by the Green Growth Trust Fund of the World Bank. The tour includes visits to Korea Land & Housing Corporation, Korea Housing Finance Corporation, Seoul City Government, the Seoul Institute, and SH Corporation. After an introduction of KRIHS by GDPC Deputy Director Jo Jin-cheol, Dr. Park Se-hoon spoke on an overview of urban regeneration and redevelopment policy in Korea and Dr. Park Joon an overview of housing and land policy in Korea, and a Q&A session followed. In the afternoon session, President Chae Mi-ok and Dr. Sim Jae-heon of the Real Estate Research Institute of the Korea Appraisal Board introduced their institutions and discussed ways for future cooperation. The participants visited the urban development department of Seongnam City and received a lecture on Seongnam's policy and experiences on public redevelopment and reconstruction by Park Chae-woon, team head of the department, and a lecture on private-sector led urban redevelopment by Park Jong-gil, an urban redevelopment expert. After the lecture, they visited Seongnam's innercity areas where redevelopment projects were implemented and housing for low-income households was provided.
