Then, President Jo Chang-Sang gave his presentation on the IDB Annual Meeting and discussed the status of economic partnership between Korea and Central and South American countries, emphasizing the need for strengthening business collaboration through the IDB Annual meeting. As part of the measures to strengthen business cooperation, President Jo called for active participation of companies in the one-on-one business consultation, which will be provided at the Korea—Central and South America business forum of the IDB Annual Meeting. The final presentation was made by Director Won Byeong-cheol. He discussed difficulties facing small- and mid-sized engineering, plant construction companies and financial support scheme for these companies, and explained that although the number of kinds of financial support programs were on the rise, small- and mid-sized engineering, plant construction companies found it increasingly difficult to benefit from the financial support scheme because an increasing number of large companies began to dominate the benefits offered by the programs. In the Q&A session, Commercial Attache Marcelo Pazos of the Ecuadorian Embassy, Advisor Park Gwan-sik of KOTRA, Director Jo Don-cheol of Jungdo UIT, Director Yang In-kook of SAMBU, and Director Ji Gwang-cheol from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance led a lively discussion. Commercial Attache Marcelo Pazos said that Korean companies’ projects for Ecuador should not be limited to merely building infrastructure but should lead to technology transfer and further investment. He added that it is easy to obtain support from the Ecuadorian government and thus easy to enter into the Ecuadorian market if Korean companies build partnership with Ecuadorian companies. Director Jo Don-cheol of Jungdo UIT asked a question as to whether there is a financial support program exclusively available for small- and mid -sized companies and Director Won Byeong-cheol of Eximbank answered that there is no financial support scheme available only for certain types of companies.
