Prof. Cho Young-ha Spoke on Housing Affordability in the UK at KRIHS Special Lecture

Date|Thursday, September 4, 2014, 10:30 AM Venue|Ninth-floor meeting room at KRIHS On Thursday, September 4, at KRIHS, Professor Cho Young-ha of Oxford Brookes University spoke on "Housing Policy Evaluation for Increasing Housing Affordability in the UK in a special lecture organized by the Housing & Land Research Division of KRIHS. In his lecture, Prof. Cho said that the UK failed to provide sufficient affordable housing when the housing market declined because the country depended primarily on the private sector in constructing and providing affordable housing. He pointed out the last revision of the act S106, which governed the supply of affordable housing, as the main reason for the problem, and suggested how to revise policies and laws for effective supply of housing for low-income citizens, based on the in-depth analysis of the act S106 and regions where the provision of affordable housing was successful. After the lecture, about ten KRIHS researchers including Chun Hyeon-sook, director of the Housing & Land Research Division, and Senior Research Fellow Kim Geun-yong participated in the discussion session, sharing their ideas on how to facilitate the provision of affordable housing for Korea.
