KRIHS Offered KOICA Education Program on Territorial Planning for Algerian Officials

The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) at KRIHS offered an education program on territorial planning and development for fifteen Algerian government officials including Souhila Dahim, a director of the Ministry of Land-use Planning and Environment of Algeria, from Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 29. The program was commissioned by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and aimed to share Korea’s knowledge and experience in territorial development including the Comprehensive National Territorial Development Plan of Korea and to help improve Algeria’s ability to solve problems the country is now facing.
During the two-week program, the Algerian officials took lectures on a range of different topics including Korea’s territorial development policy and planning, urban development policy, housing policy, water resource management policy, industrial location and regional policy, transportation and infrastructure development policy, land policy, and GIS application for urban and regional planning. At the end of the program, on August 29, the officials presented their action plans, which were established with the guidance of the advisors Park Heon-ju, president of Research Institute for Road Name-Based Address System; Kim jeong-ho, visiting professor of KDI School of Public Policy and Management; and Ryu Jae-young, research professor of Korea Aerospace University. In addition, the course provided field trips to a number of institutions and places related to Korea’s infrastructure―Anyang U-city Operation Center, Wirye New Town Project Promotion Center, Gangnam recycling facilities, Korea Water Resources Corporation’s water management center, Sejong Government Complex, Promotion Center for Busan New Port Project, the industrial park in Namdong, Incheon, and POSCO, as well as cultural destinations such as Bulguksa and Anapji in Gyeong-ju and Insa-dong in Seoul.
