Seminar on Water Infrastructure Sustainability and Resilience to Urban Disaster
The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) at KRIHS held a seminar on Friday, August 8 at KRIHS, inviting Prof. Steven J. Burian to speak on “Water Infrastructure Sustainability and Resilience to Urban Disaster.” Prof. Burian is a professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Utah and came to Korea for attending a workshop hosted by the United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) held from August 4 to August 8. During his visit to KRIHS, he introduced his research area and discussed future joint research with KRIHS. The GDPC Director Moon Jeong-ho began the seminar by delivering welcoming remarks, Prof. Burian gave his presentation, and a Q&A session followed. Prof. Burian presented the findings of his urban bioretention research and the ways to use, as sustainable water infrastructure, a rainwater harvesting facility that was designed to respond to climate change. The attendees including Lee Sang-keon, director of the Infrastructure Research Division at KRIHS, actively participated in the Q&A session, and Dr. Han Woo-suk contributed to the discussion by providing further information about Prof. Burian’s research.
