KRIHS-PSRC of Ethiopia Workshop on Urban Development Policy

On Wednesday, June 25, the Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) at KRIHS held a workshop on urban development policy in Korea and sustainable territorial development with a delegation of five ministerial-level officials of the Policy Study and Research Centre (PSRC) and a counsellor at the embassy of Ethiopia. The Ethiopian officials, who were invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea and stayed in Korea for five days from June 21 to July 2, visited KRIHS to learn about the policies and experiences in urban development in Korea, a model for Ethiopian development, and establish a cooperative relationship with KRIHS. After a meeting with KRIHS President Kim Kyung-Hwan, the workshop began at the fourth floor Ecole meeting room with Vice Director Jo Jin-cheol of GDPC giving a brief introduction of KRIHS and GDPC. Director Lee Won-sup of the National Territorial Planning & Research Division delivered a lecture on “Territorial Development Planning and Policy in Korea,” Dr. Kim Seong-soo of the Land Management & Urban Research Division spoke on “Urban Development and Policy in Korea,” and a Q&A session followed. The PSRC is a policy institute established in 2013 in order to serve as a think tank for formulating practical economic development policies for Ethiopia. The participants also discussed the link between industrialization strategies and national and regional development in Ethiopia, Korea’s new town development, green policies, public and private housing supply and policy, land compensation, balanced development strategies including the Company City and the Innovation City, the Knowledge Sharing Program, and KRIHS training programs.
