KRIHS Special Lecture Addresses Neighborhood Safety

On Thursday, June 19, Prof. David C. Sloane at the University of Southern California spoke on “Creating Safe Neighborhoods, Sustaining Community Well-being” at a special lecture organized by the National Territorial Planning and Research Division at KRIHS. Prof. Sloane dealt with various topics, including crime trends in Los Angeles, Los Angeles safety map, correlation between crime prevention efforts and community safety, the effects of the civil gang injunction on community safety, urban design for a safer environment. He also presented a number of cases that show how microscopic methodologies are used in research on urban crime and community safety, which gained considerable attention from participants. After the lecture, a lively discussion took place among attendees, including the director of the NTPRD Lee Won-sup, the director of the center for National Territorial Plan Assessment Min Seong-hee, and Associate Research Fellow Ahn Yong-jin.
