Preliminary Survey on Community-Led Urban Disaster Prevention in Vietnam

  • Date2024-06-04
  • Hit399

Backgrounds

- Vietnam is one of the five countries most affected by climate change and rising sea levels. In response, the country nationally approved and announced a climate change adaptation program in 2008, pursuing a vision of climate change response and sustainable development.

- It is necessary to review Vietnam's climate change response policies and understand the climate change response patterns in case study areas (Hue City, Hoi An City) to identify potential cooperation projects.

Purpose

- To identify cooperation projects for local Vietnamese governments by analyzing the current status and vulnerabilities related to climate change.

- To draw insights for the Vietnamese case study areas by reviewing examples from Korea.

- To use the findings as foundational data for future policy consulting projects for developing countries, such as those by KOICA and KSP.

Project Description

- Examination of Vietnam's climate change response strategies and programs.

- Analysis of the current status of climate change response in case study areas (Hoi An City, Hue City).

- Results of surveys conducted in the case study areas (Hoi An City, Hue City).

- Policy proposals that can be applied.

Impacts and Benefits

- This preliminary survey project, connected to subsequent projects through education and training programs, will contribute to identifying commissioned projects for international joint research by the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (three-year period, 2018-2020).

- Sharing Korea's policy and research experiences related to urban disaster prevention will promote KRIHS's research achievements.
